Supporting Clients Experimenting with Therapeutic Psychedelics: A Harm Reduction Approach
As the general public becomes more aware of the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, more therapists will be approached by clients asking for support while experimenting with these mind-expanding substances. Much can be learned from the current trends in entheogenic coaching. This talk will explore the ethical relationship between psychedelic harm reduction techniques and their usage by coaches and therapists. We will introduce safety planning and describe the component of a complete psychedelic game plan. We will discuss the nuances of how and when to advise clients of theoretical or eminent risks.
Talk objective:
Recognize ethical challenges surrounding supporting clients doing DIY psychedelic therapy
Assess/Identify client's readiness to try DIY Psychedelic Healing
Describe the components of a healthy psychedelic experimentation plan
Explain basic harm reduction tools that can be utilized in non-clinical psychedelic settings
Identify the differences between psychedelic coaching and therapy
Recognize the Limitations of a harm reduction approach and when to talk about risk with your clients.
This talk is designed to give guidance from a coaching perspective on supporting DIY psychedelic clients that mitigates harm and improves the healing relationship for coaches, therapists not providing psychedelic experiences and of course, the DIY's themselves.
