Pairing Psychology with Psychedelics: A DIY Guide
Our brains are like super computers, sometimes a simple reboot with psychedelics can give us a new perspective. Other times, the operating system may be so faulty - such as those who suffer complex or childhood PTSD - that a new operating system needs to be written. While psychedelics can open the mind to new possibilities, they don’t represent new programing in and of themselves. Success for the modern psychonaut may increase if a new operating system is standing by to be installed. Modern behavioral therapies such as DBT and CBT can promote changes in negative habits and thought patterns. While, inspiration can be drawn from self-help support groups and narrative therapy to support the DIY psychonaught in their search for a healing.
There are many creative ways to use psychology to help us design a framework for medicinal psychedelic use.
In this presentation:
Teach several important psychology models for neurohacking
Suggest applications of psychology during the psychedelic prep-phase
Explore psychology tools to promote lasting integration
Increase knowledge around creating a DIY psychedelic experience
Presenter
E.J.O. is a holistic Nutritionist and Change Coach with 10 years of medical practice. Her journey to become a healer was fueled from the need to overcome childhood traumas. Elizabeth has used her training to quit many of the self harming behaviors of BPD. During the last decade, she has studied: human behavior, psychology, yoga, flow states, and mindfulness based therapies. Elizabeth recently combined these tools with psychedelics in experiments to neurohack her emotional suffering from depression. She talks about this in her new book, “Breaking Emotional Addiction: Nuerohacking Borderline Personality Disorder with Ibogaine.” Read her book here.
Elizabeth studied both herbal medicine and nutrition at Bastyr University, a college of natural medicine. She travels teaching workshops and has a virtual coaching practice. In her free time, she offers peer support in online forums and volunteers at festivals offering psychedelic harm reduction. Elizabeth is passionate about reducing barriers to finding compassionate support for processing non- ordinary states of consciousness. She is currently studying how altered states can compliment addiction treatment.
